Successful Homeschooling
This is a "keynote"
type address to encourage those families who educate their children in
their homes to define success according to their convictions. Not only
does Jill present philosophical and theological concerns, she presents
practical ideas and strategies.
The Upward Spiral
This popular speech
is designed to encourage families toward an upward spiral of drawing nearer
to God in contrast to a downward spiral of letting that relationship slide.
Our choices affect every aspect of our lives from homeschooling, housing,
relationships, and "business" transactions.
Lifestyle Learning
Homeschooling should
not just be an academic concern. There are techniques and processes which
can transform the scholastic-minded to re-think and re-direct their home
education program. In a sense, this is an "anti-homeschooling"
message. "Let’s not repeat the same mistakes of the mass-produced
education systems."
Christ-centered Education
This is a summary
presentation including sections of other home education specific topics.
Because it is more general in scope, it works well as an opening lecture
for an assembly. In it’s standard form it is presented to veteran and
new home educators, but can be adapted to either audience specifically.
True Learning
What happens when
we learn? Jill presents many of the theories about education and how they
compare and influence our teaching styles. Through her extensive research
with her special needs son, interviews with thousands of teachers, years
of her own teaching experience (including teaching for a state university
and home educating for more than fourteen years), she is learning about
techniques that work and those that are based on lies. The brain is an
amazing gift ¾ Jill presents methods to help us utilize it to become the
best we can be. This presentation is for all audiences, not just for those
with special or gifted children.
Mission-minded Education
Just as a military
unit has a distinct "mission," so each family must develop a
clear-cut mission as to what they are to accomplish in their home-education
program. This presentation develops through an illustrative parallel contrasting
"mission statements" and family purposes. Attendees will leave
equipped to begin the process of preparing their own family’s mission
statement. Every family should have a mission: a ministry designed by
God.
Enabled by God
This message offers
hope and encouragement and some practical helps to parents whose children
learn differently than the majority. Jill can customize this program for
1) special needs only, 2) gifted, or 3) a combination of both. There is
some overlap with this program and the True Learning presentation.
Additional Topics:
The Good
is the Enemy of the Best (a.k.a. Opportunity Costs of What You’re
Doing Now)
The
Recabite Model (The Recabites (Jeremiah 35) and how we also are
a particular people)
The
Behavior Modification Lie (Behavior Modification doesn’t work and
how it has subtly drifted into some teaching styles.)
The
Labeling Lie a.k.a. Styled Myths. Shining Light into the labeling
and categorizing myths so prevalent in homeschooling circles (e.g.,
learning styles, personality types, labels)
In addition, Jill can
address topics on unit studies and specific subjects. These presentations
are designed specifically for a home-education audience. Those listed
on the "Only With His Anointing" sheet can all be adapted to
a home educating audience.
